Are you Eligible for TRICARE For Life?

TRICARE For Life (TFL) is a benefit available to retired U.S. military and their families. It includes processing of all TRICARE claims for those eligible for both TRICARE and Medicare. TFL applies for services performed in the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands.

Are you eligible in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)?

You must be eligible in DEERS to qualify for TRICARE For Life. If you are not sure if you are eligible, please call DEERS at (800) 538-9552.

How do I get started with TFL?

Getting started in the TRICARE For Life (TFL) program is easy. You do not have to submit any forms or complete any paperwork. You will be automatically enrolled if:

  • You are already TRICARE eligible according to the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
  • You have purchased Medicare Part B.

Medicare Enrollment

You do not pay an enrollment fee for TFL. However, you must purchase Medicare Part B to be eligible for the TFL medical benefit. You do pay a monthly fee—deducted from your monthly Social Security payment—for Medicare Part B.

To find out more about your Medicare eligibility, fees, etc., please visit your local Social Security Office or go to Medicare.

Will I need a card?

We do not issue a card when you become TFL eligible. The only card you may need to show providers is your valid military identification card. If you do not have a military ID card or your ID card has expired, please contact DEERS at (800) 538-9552 to renew your card.

TRICARE mide su deducible y límite catastrófico por año calendario (del 1 de enero al 31 de diciembre). Si alcanza su límite catastrófico, no tendrá que pagar más costos por los servicios autorizados cubiertos por TRICARE durante el resto del año calendario.

Si se inscribe en TRICARE Prime, no tiene un deducible anual. Cuando TRICARE For Life es el pagador principal, deberá cumplir con su deducible anual.

Puede visitar a cualquier proveedor certificado por TRICARE sin una derivación de su PCM. El proveedor no necesita estar dentro de la red.

Cuando utiliza la opción de Punto de servicio (POS):

  • No necesita una derivación, pero debe cumplir con algunos requisitos de aprobación previa.

  • Paga un deducible más alto y el 50 % del Cargo máximo permitido de TRICARE CHAMPUS (CMAC).

  • No tiene protección de límite catastrófico.
